Fungal Nail Infections – Can Natural Home Remedies Cure The Infection?

There are many websites that provide a number of natural home remedies to get rid of toenail. The top 10 common ones include apple cider vinegar, baking soda, yogurt, white vinegar, oil of oregano, Listerine mouthwash, garlic, lemon juice, lavender oil and orange oil. People tried all these home remedies as they are cheap, convenient and easy to use.

All these remedies are claimed to have anti-fungal properties and can be able to get rid of fungal nail infection. However, this is not true. There is no evidence to prove that those remedies can cure fungal nail infection. These remedies might stop the fungal to spread to other areas but they do not kill the fungus. WE DON’T RECOMMEND home remedies for fungal nail infection treatment as they do not work.

Treatment of a fungal nail infection can take a while to complete, and is best begun at the early stages of infection, before it has spread deeper into the nail. Fungal infections are often difficult to treat even if appropriate treatments have been utilized.

Treatment involves reducing the thickness of the nail by podiatrist, the application of topical anti-fungal agents and in severe cases the use of anti-fungal oral medications, prescribed by your doctor. Treatment can range from 3 to 18 months to completely clear up the fungal infection. It’s very important to follow your podiatrist’s recommendations and the instructions found in the package insert of the prescribed product.

Even in successful cases, relapse is common. Therefore, your doctor or podiatrist may want you to return for periodic visits to evaluate the progress and outcome of your treatment.
