What causes an ingrown toenail?

  • Hereditary condition- it runs in the family
  • Involution of the nail
  • Picking or ripping of the nail
  • Improper footwear
  • Incorrect cutting technique

Getting help

Unfortunately leaingrown toenail 1ving an ingrown nail to get better on its own is not going to help.

Treatment may involve removing the ingrown nail and that is all that may be necessary. If you have a history of ingrown nails and the nail returns it might be recommended that you have nail surgery (PNA) which is permanent removal of the affected side of nail. A PNA can be performed by your podiatrist and is a safe and effective way at relieving your pain and problem nail in the long term.

Come and see one of our podiatrists for an assessment and advice of the best treatment for you.
